ELCOM Innovations Data Hack Brings Huge Loss to Indian Company
Yet again another India-based Company has been added to the list of companies that have been hacked amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Noida-based ELCOM Innovations, defence tech service provider, incurred a loss of around Rs. 50 Crores due to the recent data hacking.
Since the Indian company has been providing tech solutions to the defence forces for a long time now, it has massive amounts of critical and classified data. The Noida police claimed that the data hack led to theft of confidential information. It has lodged an FIR in connection with the hack, while an investigation has also been launched by the Cyber Cell.
The FIR read, “It may also be noted that our company, ELCOM Innovations Private Limited, exclusively deals with Defence Forces, Para Military Forces and Intelligence Agencies of the country, thereby, having access to critical and classified data.”
A senior executive at the ELCOM Innovations stated the hacking has led to heavy financial losses and irreparable damage to its reputation. Since the company offers customised solutions to its clients, most of the hacked emails were of “extremely sensitive” nature and “of substantial financial value”.
